A rising talent in the realm of rocket and missile technology, Kalam pursued aeronautical engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT). Millions of people are still inspired by his life story.

In addition to the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan, Dr. Kalam received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, for his service as a scientific advisor to the Indian government.

Kalam enjoyed talking with and answering the queries of schoolchildren and young people, even after he was elected President of India. He had a strong belief that kids are the nation’s future and its greatest asset. On July 27, 2015, Kalam passed away after collapsing during a presentation at IIM-Shillong. He had suffered a heart attack.
